PERFIDIOUS SUN
by Maris B. Mohr

PERFIDIOUS SUN

Perfidious sun, brightly mocking
through frosty panes of glass
Tempting the unwary to forego the warmth
of inner chambers, go forth into the blast
Cloudless blue sky illuminated
false promise of Springy days
Relentless winter biting fingers and toes
reminder of months to pass
Scarves flying in the wind, umbrellas catching drops
flecks of white proving the point
Winter sun is an illusion
only brilliantly cold light
Leading the hopeful way out of this cave of ice
to days of honest solar grace
Oh, Perfidious Sun, be gone.
